Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a phone call Monday to discuss concrete measures for implementing the agreements reached during last week’s conversation between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, according to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The ministry described the exchange as constructive, noting that both diplomats focused on advancing the “understandings” established during the October 16 discussion between the two leaders.
Following that earlier call, President Trump announced that he and Putin had agreed to meet in Budapest soon. Russian Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov later confirmed that both sides intend to move forward “without delay” in organizing the meeting, calling the development “a very important moment.”
Ushakov said preparations for the summit would begin immediately after the conversation between Rubio and Lavrov, with officials from both countries coordinating logistics for the upcoming talks in the Hungarian capital.
