The Trump administration has established an interagency effort to expose the Biden administration’s “prolific and dangerous weaponization of government.”
The Interagency Weaponization Working Group, which has been meeting since at least May, includes representatives from the White House, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Central Intelligence Agency, the Justice and Defense Departments, the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, the IRS, and the Federal Communications Commission, according to internal documents reviewed by Reuters.
Officials said the group operates in coordination with the executive order President Trump signed on January 20, Ending the Weaponization of the Federal Government, which directs agencies to identify and address past abuses of power and ensure accountability for prior misconduct.
The IWWG, initiated by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, meets biweekly to share information, coordinate investigations, and execute oversight actions across departments. A source familiar described its mission as “basically to go after the Deep State” and said it plays a key role in aligning agency efforts under the Trump order.
Justice Department attorney Ed Martin, who also leads Attorney General Pam Bondi’s DOJ weaponization group, is reportedly one of the group’s principal members. Other key figures include ODNI official Paul McNamara, a retired Marine and aide to Gabbard, who oversees the Directors Initiatives Group within ODNI.
Documents reviewed by Reuters indicate that at least 39 current and former officials are involved in the Interagency Weaponization Working Group and related subcommittees.
