FBI Director Kash Patel has uncovered thousands of sensitive documents tied to the origins of the Trump–Russia investigation, hidden in multiple “burn bags” inside a previously undisclosed secure room (SCIF) at FBI headquarters.
Among the materials was the classified annex to former Special Counsel John Durham’s final report, along with foreign-sourced intelligence indicating the FBI was expected to help drive the Trump–Russia collusion narrative, even before launching its controversial Crossfire Hurricane probe.
Sources say Patel’s team discovered the burn bags, typically used to destroy classified materials, inside an unmarked sensitive compartmented information facility (SCIF) within the building. The annex is now undergoing declassification in coordination with CIA Director John Ratcliffe, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Acting NSA Director William Hartman.
Once finalized, the annex will be transmitted to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, who is expected to make it public. Sources briefed on its contents say the intelligence, reportedly gathered just days before the FBI opened Crossfire Hurricane, “predicted the FBI’s next move with alarming specificity,” and raises serious concerns for former officials John Brennan, James Clapper, and James Comey.
Patel has turned over the recovered documents to Grassley, whose team is now reviewing the material as part of its ongoing oversight of the Durham investigation. Patel has also opened criminal investigations into Brennan and Comey, following a referral from Ratcliffe.
Grassley is expected to release the declassified annex in the coming weeks.
