The Department of Justice announced Friday that it will deploy election monitors to six jurisdictions across two states ahead of the November 4, 2025, general election, citing the need to ensure ballot security, transparency, and compliance with federal voting laws.
The initiative, directed by Attorney General Pamela Bondi, will be led by the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division under Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon. Civil Rights Division personnel will coordinate with U.S. Attorney’s Offices to observe polling locations in Passaic County, New Jersey, and in California’s Kern, Riverside, Fresno, Orange, and Los Angeles Counties.
Acting U.S. Attorneys Bill Essayli of California’s Central District and Alina Habba of New Jersey voiced support for the initiative, emphasizing their offices’ role in upholding election integrity and ensuring every lawful vote is counted.
The Civil Rights Division said its election monitors will work closely with local officials to maintain open communication and prevent potential violations of federal voting rights protections.
From now through Election Day, the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division will continue to field questions and complaints from the public regarding potential violations of federal voting laws. Requests for election monitoring in other jurisdictions can be directed to the Voting Section at VEM@usdoj.gov.
