The federal judge overseeing Hunter Biden’s conviction on gun charges in Delaware has once again agreed to delay his sentencing. U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika granted a request from prosecutors to push back the sentencing by one week, moving the date from December 4 to December 12, as ordered on Thursday.
Prosecutors from special counsel David Weiss' office sought the delay due to a scheduling conflict with the trial of Alexander Smirnov, an FBI confidential source facing felony charges for false statements and obstruction. Smirnov allegedly provided derogatory information about Hunter Biden and Joe Biden, and his trial is set to begin on December 3.
This is the second time Judge Noreika has postponed Hunter Biden’s sentencing. Previously, the date was moved from November 13 to December 4 to allow his legal team more time to prepare sentencing materials.
Hunter Biden was convicted in June on three felony counts related to the purchase of a firearm in 2018 while allegedly addicted to drugs. In a separate case in Los Angeles, he pleaded guilty to nine federal tax-related charges earlier this month, with sentencing in that case scheduled for December 16.
