The Pentagon is preparing to withdraw roughly 5,000 U.S. troops from Germany, a move senior War Department officials say reflects President Trump’s dissatisfaction with the level of support from European allies in the ongoing conflict with Iran.
The drawdown will impact a brigade combat team currently based in Germany, while a long-range fires battalion previously scheduled for deployment there will be redirected elsewhere. Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said the transition will occur over the next six to 12 months following a review of force posture and operational needs.
Officials said some of the withdrawing forces could return to the U.S. before being redeployed to other regions.
