President Trump announced that the United States will raise tariffs on automobiles and trucks imported from the European Union to 25% next week, citing the EU’s failure to comply with a previously agreed upon trade deal.
Trump said the higher tariff will not apply to vehicles manufactured in the United States, noting that more than $100 billion is being invested in new auto manufacturing facilities under construction across the country. Plants staffed by American workers are expected to open soon. President Trump called it a historic period for U.S. auto production.
