The Justice Department is appealing a federal judge’s decision that dismissed criminal charges against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James.
Comey was charged with making false statements to Congress and obstructing an investigation; James faced bank fraud and false statement charges related to mortgage claims. Both pleaded not guilty.
The indictments followed repeated calls from President Trump to prosecute Comey and James. Lindsey Halligan, the prosecutor who brought the cases, had her appointment ruled in violation of federal law limiting interim U.S. attorney appointments without Senate confirmation.
