President-elect Donald Trump announced the nomination of Senator Marco Rubio of Florida as the next United States Secretary of State.

Trump praised Rubio as “a highly respected leader and a very powerful voice for freedom.” He expressed confidence in Rubio’s capabilities, stating, “He will be a strong advocate for our nation, a true friend to our allies, and a fearless warrior who will never back down to our adversaries.” Trump emphasized his eagerness to collaborate with Rubio to “make America, and the world, safe and great again.”

Biography of Senator Marco Rubio

Marco Rubio was born in 1971 in Miami, Florida, to Cuban immigrants in pursuit of the American Dream. His father worked as a banquet bartender, while his mother balanced her time as a stay-at-home mom and a hotel maid. These humble beginnings instilled in Rubio a deep appreciation for faith, family, community, and hard work.

Rubio’s desire to enter public service was influenced by discussions with his grandfather, who had witnessed his homeland succumb to communism. Following his marriage to Jeanette and his graduation from the University of Florida and the University of Miami Law School, Rubio launched his political career. He first served as a city commissioner in West Miami before becoming Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives. Rubio was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2010.

During his initial term, Rubio confronted the challenges of Washington’s gridlock. He encountered strong opposition to reform from entrenched partisan interests and an elite establishment benefiting from the status quo. Witnessing communities suffering from lost jobs and a weakened cultural fabric reinforced Rubio’s resolve to revive the American Dream for working Americans. Now serving his third Senate term, Rubio continues to champion policies that promote job creation, bolster communities, and counter threats like the Chinese Communist Party.

Rubio’s legislative accomplishments include spearheading reforms within the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, securing healthcare benefits for veterans affected by toxic burn pits, doubling the federal child tax credit, and aiding small businesses during the pandemic through the Paycheck Protection Program. He has also played a pivotal role in funding Everglades restoration efforts.

Notably, Rubio authored and helped pass the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, marking a significant shift in U.S.-China relations. The Center for Effective Lawmaking has consistently ranked Rubio among the top three most effective senators in Congress for his legislative contributions.

Despite the challenges of partisan conflict and entrenched interests, Senator Rubio remains committed to serving the people of Florida and the nation. He is dedicated to ensuring that American politics reflects common sense and prioritizes the common good, striving daily to make the American Dream more accessible for all.
