Jack Smith’s attorney advised Mueller in Russiagate hoax

by | Apr 25, 2024

The attorney representing special counsel Jack Smith before the United States Supreme Court's hearing over President Trump's presidential immunity claim gained attention in 2018 for his role as the primary legal advisor behind Robert Mueller's investigation into false allegations of collusion between Trump and Russia during the 2016 election.

Michael Dreeben is a federal attorney with the Department of Justice (DOJ) whose background includes serving as a staffer to Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) before his tenure at the DOJ. Dreeben played a significant role in pursuing President Trump for “obstruction of justice” during the Mueller investigation, despite the team's awareness that the Russian collusion accusations were unfounded.

Dreeben has experience arguing over 100 cases before the Supreme Court during his tenure in the U.S. Solicitor General's office. In addition to his involvement with the Mueller team, Dreeben provided counsel to former Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance on his “get Trump” hunt. Mark Pomerantz, who worked alongside Vance at the time, likely had interactions with Dreeben. Pomerantz's influence may have contributed to the decision by current Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg to pursue charges against Trump related to hush money, which are currently being heard at trial.
