The first joint election integrity lawsuit for the 2024 presidential election has been filed by the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee (RNC). It aims to prevent the counting of mail-in ballots received after election day, citing concerns over voter fraud similar to those raised following the stolen 2020 presidential election.
The lawsuit is a reaction to legislation enacted by Nevada's Democratic-controlled legislature in 2021. This legislation permits the counting of mail-in ballots received up to four days after Election Day, provided the envelopes are postmarked before the end of the day.
Supporters argue that this practice encourages broader voter participation, yet critics shed light on the obvious fact that it provides Democratic operatives with a window to secure additional votes necessary for victory. Nineteen states permit the counting of mail-in ballots received after Election Day.
While this marks the first lawsuit initiated by Trump's presidential campaign, the RNC has already filed five distinct lawsuits addressing election integrity matters in six states.
