Tulsi Gabbard is stepping down as Director of National Intelligence to support her husband as he battles an extremely rare form of bone cancer. Her resignation will take effect June 30, 2026.
In a resignation letter to President Trump, Gabbard said her husband’s diagnosis and the challenges ahead led her to step away from public service, saying she could not ask him to face the battle alone while she continued in the demanding role.
Gabbard pointed to “significant progress” at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, citing efforts to advance transparency and restore integrity within the intelligence community. She pledged to ensure a smooth transition before leaving office.
