DOJ considering Assange guilty plea

The U.S. Justice Department is reportedly contemplating the option of permitting Julian Assange to plead guilty to a lesser charge of mishandling classified information, as per sources familiar with the situation.

This consideration raises the prospect of a potential deal that could bring to a close an extensive legal ordeal stemming from one of the most significant classified intelligence leaks in American history.

Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, is engaged in a prolonged legal struggle with the British government to prevent extradition to the United States. The case revolves around his publication of sensitive U.S. military documents and diplomatic cables nearly a decade ago. Currently, a U.K. court is deliberating on whether to permit a final appeal in this matter.
