The Democratic National Committee filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the Trump administration, seeking records on whether federal agencies discussed deploying armed agents or military personnel to polling locations or election offices, even though the administration has denied any plans to do so.
The suit, filed in federal court in Washington, D.C., claims the Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, and Department of Defense failed to respond to 11 Freedom of Information Act requests submitted in October.
Administration officials have said no such plans exist. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said she had not heard President Trump discuss any plan to place ICE agents outside polling locations, while former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem told senators there are “no plans” to station ICE officers at polling sites. Heather Honey, deputy assistant secretary for election integrity, reportedly told election officials in a private meeting that there would be no ICE presence at polling locations this year.
The lawsuit suggests Democrats remain unconvinced and are seeking formal, written confirmation that no plans or discussions are underway.
