A former senior policy adviser to the Obama administration has appeared in a British court facing charges related to child sex offenses.
Rahamim ‘Rami' Shy, aged 46, faces accusations of arranging the commission of a child sex offense, as detailed in court documents.
Shy, a US citizen residing in New Jersey, faces additional charges of possessing two category C indecent images of children and possessing a prohibited image of a child.
He previously worked for the White House under President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, was arrested by Bedfordshire Police in late February. The following day, he was formally charged and appeared at Luton Crown Court via video.
During the appearance, he was not required to enter a plea to any of the charges and was remanded in custody pending a hearing scheduled for June.
Shy held a senior position at the US Treasury Department from 2008 to 2014, where he provided counsel on countering terrorism financing and aiding foreign governments in imposing sanctions on hostile regimes. Additionally, he served as a senior adviser to the late US diplomat Richard Holbrooke, who worked under the last three Democratic presidents. Shy also provided strategic policy analysis to chiefs of staff at the US Department of Defense.
Shy is scheduled to stand trial in August.
