Biden announces new rule enabling undocumented immigrants healthcare access

by | May 3, 2024

The Biden administration announced a new rule on Friday that will enable tens of thousands of undocumented immigrants to access healthcare through ObamaCare.

This rule removes a restriction that previously prevented undocumented immigrants protected under the 2012 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program from accessing healthcare through the Affordable Care Act.

These immigrants will have the opportunity to apply for coverage through Healthcare.gov and state-based marketplaces. Biden asserted that this rule will offer these immigrants a pathway to citizenship.

The rule is set to take effect as early as November 1, and the administration anticipates that around 100,000 uninsured undocumented immigrants will be eligible to access taxpayer-funded health insurance under this rule.
