Trump Says U.S. Will Become ‘Guardian of the Hormuz Strait’

by | Jul 13, 2026

President Trump announced on Truth Social that the United States will be known as the “Guardian of the Hormuz Strait,” saying it will provide security for the strategic waterway while allowing all countries, except Iran and its customers under the “Iranian Blockade,” to continue using the strait.

Trump said the U.S. would be reimbursed through a proposed 20% fee on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz to cover the costs of providing security, adding that the process would begin immediately.
