Trump Refiles $15 Billion Defamation Suit Against The New York Times

by | Oct 18, 2025

President Trump has refiled a $15 billion lawsuit against The New York Times and reporters Susanne Craig, Russ Buettner, and Peter Baker, accusing them of publishing false, malicious, and defamatory claims during coverage of his 2024 campaign.

The new filing in Florida’s Middle District Court follows a federal judge’s dismissal of Trump’s earlier suit, which alleged the paper tried to damage his business reputation and influence public opinion against him.

Trump’s complaint cites two articles and the book Lucky Loser: How Donald Trump Squandered His Father’s Fortune and Created the Illusion of Success, written by Craig and Buettner. His attorneys say the Times ignored requests to retract “defamatory content” and instead “doubled down.”

The president seeks a jury trial, at least $15 billion in damages, and a full retraction of the disputed material.
