Homeland Security Investigations agents searched the Washington, D.C., home of Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., early Monday as part of a criminal fraud investigation into her immigration paperwork.
The search, which began around 6 a.m., was carried out under a judicially authorized warrant secured by the Department of Justice. HSI and the Department of Homeland Security led the operation, with DOJ involvement.
Two sources familiar with the matter said the investigation centers on immigration documents completed by Omar’s late father when she was a child. Omar was born in Somalia.
A DOJ spokesperson confirmed the action: “Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice. This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal investigation.” Officials later described the probe as criminal in nature.
