South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster has appointed Darline Graham Nordone, the sister of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, to temporarily fill his U.S. Senate seat following the longtime Republican lawmaker’s sudden death over the weekend.
Speaking alongside McMaster on Monday, Nordone said it was an honor to continue her brother’s work and pledged to support President Trump while serving the people of South Carolina.
Under South Carolina law, the governor may appoint an interim replacement to a vacant Senate seat. Because Graham was seeking reelection this year, a special Republican primary has been scheduled for Aug. 11 to determine the party’s nominee for the November election.
