Israel Says Supreme Leader Khamenei Killed in Strikes

by | Feb 28, 2026

A senior Israeli official said Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in coordinated Israeli and U.S. strikes targeting Iranian leadership and military sites.

The Israeli official told Reuters that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the operation, which targeted key leadership and military positions. Iran pushed back on Israeli media reports, denying that the supreme leader was killed in the strikes.

Israeli military officials said the strikes also killed Iran’s defense minister, Amir Nasirzadeh, and the commander of its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Mohammad Pakpour, according to Reuters.

Fox News reported that President Trump told NBC News he concurs with the claim, saying “the people that make all the decisions — most of them are gone” and “on Ayatollah: ‘We feel that is a correct story.’” Trump also posted about his death on Truth Social.
