The FBI has begun interviewing current and former CIA officials as part of the Justice Department’s investigation into former CIA Director John Brennan and his role in the 2017 intelligence assessment on alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election.
Sources said agents from the FBI’s Miami field office questioned employees at CIA headquarters in McLean, Virginia, last week, with additional interviews expected in the coming weeks. Roughly a dozen current and former CIA officers involved in the assessment have reportedly been interviewed.
Investigators are examining Brennan’s role in shaping the assessment and whether conclusions were influenced by the Steele dossier. Prosecutors are also reviewing whether Brennan made false statements to Congress during 2023 testimony when he said the CIA was “not involved at all” with the dossier.
