Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Marty Makary is resigning from his role Tuesday after 13 months leading the agency, according to an administration official cited by Politico.
Kyle Diamantas, previously the FDA’s top food official, will take over in an acting capacity.
A senior administration official said the decision for Makary to step down had been in the works for months, describing his tenure as under internal review. While the White House signed off on the move, the official said Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. ultimately made the call.
“It was really Secretary Kennedy himself who made this decision,” the official said.
