The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that it received grand jury subpoenas from the Department of Justice for reporters’ records tied to alleged leaks involving U.S. and Israeli military planning connected to Iran.

The subpoenas, issued March 4, were linked to a Feb. 23 article claiming Gen. Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and other Pentagon officials warned President Trump about risks associated with a potential military campaign against Iran. Five days after that reporting, Trump launched a joint military offensive with Israel targeting Iran.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said Tuesday that the administration has made prosecuting leakers a priority, particularly in cases involving classified material. “Any witness, whether a reporter or otherwise, who has information about these criminals should not be surprised if they receive a subpoena about the illegal leaking of classified material,” he wrote on X.

In April, Trump also addressed a separate leak tied to a mission involving a downed fighter pilot near Iran, saying the administration was actively seeking the source. He called the leaker a “sick person” and said, “we’re going to find out… and the person that did the story will go to jail if he doesn’t say,” adding that the leak put the mission and national security at risk.
