The Justice Department announced Tuesday that eight members of a North Texas Antifa cell were sentenced to a combined 450 years in federal prison for their roles in a July 4, 2025 attack on the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas.
Benjamin Hanil Song, identified by prosecutors as a leader of the group, received a 100-year sentence after being convicted of attempting to murder an Alvarado police officer by shooting him in the neck during the attack. The remaining defendants received sentences ranging from 30 to 70 years.
According to prosecutors, the group arrived armed with firearms, body armor, explosives, and medical kits before launching fireworks, vandalizing property, and opening fire on responding officers. Authorities said the defendants used encrypted communications, concealed their identities with “black bloc” clothing, and coordinated the attack in advance.
The sentencing marks the first convictions involving defendants affiliated with Antifa since President Trump designated the group a Domestic Terrorist Organization in September 2025. A ninth defendant is scheduled to be sentenced July 1, while seven others who pleaded guilty to providing material support to terrorists also await sentencing.
