Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton were scheduled to sit for depositions this week before Congress regarding their ties to Jeffrey Epstein, but the appearances have been postponed until January.
House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chair James Comer notified the Clintons’ attorney in a letter obtained by POLITICO that the depositions have been rescheduled, signaling that the congressional investigation into the late, convicted sex offender will continue. The delay comes as the Justice Department is expected to release a substantial set of Epstein-related materials by Friday.
Comer wrote that Bill Clinton must appear before the committee on Jan. 13 and Hillary Clinton on Jan. 14, warning that failure to comply could result in contempt of Congress proceedings. “If your clients do not comply with these new dates, the Committee will move immediately to contempt proceedings,” Comer said in the letter.
According to Comer, the Clintons’ attorney previously cited a funeral as the reason they could not testify this week but did not propose alternative dates, leading the committee chair to set new deposition dates unilaterally.
