First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California Bill Essayli said his office has multiple election fraud investigations underway in coordination with the FBI’s Los Angeles field office, adding that prosecutors will “follow the evidence wherever it leads” and pursue violations of federal election law.
Essayli also said his office is working with Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon on a comprehensive audit of California’s voter rolls, noting the state has resisted efforts to verify that only eligible U.S. citizens are registered to vote. He said the issue is now before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal.
He said his office will “not look the other way,” adding, “We will investigate and prosecute. Every legal vote deserves to be counted. Every illegal vote cancels one out.”
Essayli said protecting the integrity of California’s elections is a top priority, pointing to structural vulnerabilities in the state’s system, including universal vote-by-mail and no voter ID requirement, which can allow fraud to go undetected and erode public confidence.
