Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche is expected to meet with Ghislaine Maxwell on Thursday, according to CNN, citing two sources familiar with the matter.
The meeting follows a Justice Department statement earlier this week confirming outreach to Maxwell, Epstein’s longtime associate. Blanche said Tuesday that “if Ghislaine Maxwell has information about anyone who has committed crimes against victims, the FBI and the DOJ will hear what she has to say.”
On Wednesday, the House Oversight subcommittee unexpectedly voted to subpoena the Justice Department for all records related to Epstein. The subpoena demands the release of DOJ-held Epstein files to Congress—with victims’ names redacted—and includes a request for communications between former Biden administration officials and DOJ personnel regarding the matter.
The subpoena also seeks depositions from several prominent figures, including former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former FBI Directors James Comey and Robert Mueller, and former Attorneys General Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, Merrick Garland, William Barr, Jeff Sessions, and Alberto Gonzales.
Ghislaine Maxwell is scheduled to appear before the House Committee on Oversight for a deposition on August 11th at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tallahassee, Florida, where she is currently serving her 20-year sentence.
Last week, the Justice Department asked a federal judge in Florida to unseal grand jury transcripts related to the Epstein case. That request was denied Wednesday by Judge Robin L. Rosenberg, who closed the original Florida case but ordered a new proceeding to evaluate the DOJ’s motion.
The ruling does not affect two separate DOJ requests still pending in New York, where grand jury proceedings led to federal indictments against both Epstein and Maxwell. Maxwell, convicted in 2022 for her role in grooming and sexually abusing underage girls alongside Epstein, is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence and continues to appeal her conviction.
