Both chambers of Congress have approved legislation blocking the Federal Reserve from issuing a central bank digital currency through 2030, sending the measure to President Trump’s desk after final House passage Tuesday.
The CBDC ban is included in the broader 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, a bipartisan housing package passed 396–13 in the House and 85–5 in the Senate. The provision prohibits the Federal Reserve and its regional banks from issuing, creating, or facilitating a central bank digital currency until December 31, 2030.
Lawmakers said the agreement reflects a compromise between House and Senate leaders after months of negotiations.
