Sen. Rand Paul announced Monday that he has issued a subpoena requiring former NIAID Director Anthony Fauci to testify publicly before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee next month.
In a post on X, Paul said Fauci recently informed the committee that he would not voluntarily appear, despite having previously agreed to testify.
“Last week, Anthony Fauci notified us he will NOT voluntarily testify before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, even though he had previously agreed to do so,” Paul wrote. “Therefore, today I have issued a subpoena requiring him to testify before the Committee, in public, next month.”
Paul’s subpoena follows the release of newly declassified documents by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard alleging Fauci directed funding toward gain-of-function research at China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology, influenced intelligence assessments regarding COVID-19’s origins, and provided testimony to Congress that the documents contradict.
The records also include whistleblower allegations that analysts supporting the lab-leak theory faced retaliation and efforts to suppress dissenting views within the intelligence community.
