Anderson Cooper is stepping away from 60 Minutes after declining a contract renewal offer from CBS News, according to reports, ending a nearly two-decade run with the program.
Reports said he was considered by Bari Weiss for the anchor role at CBS Evening News but declined both the position and the contract extension, opting not to return for the fall season. He will continue anchoring AC360 weeknights on CNN, where he also serves as a correspondent.
Cooper said working on “60 Minutes” was a career highlight but cited a desire to spend more time with his young children as the reason for stepping away.
