Israel Sidelined in Iran Ceasefire Talks, Raised Objections to Terms

by | Apr 8, 2026

Israel was not formally involved in negotiations over the Iran ceasefire and was only informed at a late stage that a deal had been finalized, according to The Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the talks.

The extent of coordination came through a call from President Trump to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shortly before the ceasefire was announced, with Netanyahu ultimately agreeing to participate, according to a White House official. Israeli officials, however, were reportedly dissatisfied with key elements of the agreement.

Among the concerns was the proposed inclusion of Lebanon in the framework, which Israel views as a separate front from Iran. Netanyahu later stated the deal did not include Lebanon, contradicting earlier messaging from Pakistan, which has been mediating the talks.

Israel’s military said it has halted operations in Iran following the agreement but continues strikes against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon.
