German prosecutors charge Ukrainian national over Nord Stream blasts

by | Jul 1, 2026

German federal prosecutors have filed charges against a Ukrainian national in connection with the 2022 Nord Stream pipeline explosions, according to German media reports.

The suspect, identified under German privacy laws only as Serhii K, is accused of involvement in attacks on civilian energy infrastructure, including causing an explosion and the destruction of structures tied to the pipelines, ARD and other outlets reported.

Authorities say Serhii K was arrested in Italy’s Rimini province on August 21, 2025, before being transferred to Germany on November 27, 2025. A German judge confirmed the arrest warrant the following day.

The accused has denied any role in the incident. His attorney, Nicola Canestrini, has expressed confidence that the case will end in acquittal once it reaches trial in Germany.
