White House announces new sanctions on Iran

White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on Tuesday announced that new sanctions will be imposed on Iran following the regime's attacks on Israel last weekend.

Sullivan, in a press release, announced that Biden is coordinating with allies and partners, including the G7, as well as bipartisan leaders in Congress, on a comprehensive response.

The new sanctions on Iran will be imposed ‘in the coming days’, according to Sullivan’s statement. Iran’s missile and drone programs as well as any entities supporting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Iran’s Defense Ministry will also be targeted.

Sullivan's letter elucidated that they are also collaborating through the Department of Defense and U.S. Central Command to enhance and broaden the successful integration of air and missile defense, as well as early warning systems, across the Middle East, with the aim of diminishing the effectiveness of Iran's missile and UAV capabilities.

Sullivan stated that the actions being taken by the U.S. will maintain a consistent pressure to contain and diminish Iran’s military capacity and effectiveness while addressing all aspects of its concerning behaviors.
