Michael Cohen, former personal attorney to Donald Trump, has declared his intention to refrain from discussing Trump until after his testimony in the ongoing hush money trial.
Cohen wrote on X, “Despite not being the gagged defendant, out of respect for Judge Merchan and the prosecutors, I will cease posting anything about Donald on my X account or on the Mea Culpa Podcast until after my trial testimony.”
As Trump's personal attorney, Cohen occupies a central role in what New York prosecutors claim was an attempt to falsify business records to conceal hush money paid to adult film star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election. Cohen also served as a key witness in Trump's fraud trial.
While Cohen isn't under a gag order, legal experts have expressed concern over his ongoing commentary, as it could offer Trump's lawyers additional material for cross-examination during Cohen's anticipated testimony.
Cohen is likely to have a hard time on the stand, given his prior conviction for lying to Congress and other offenses, which resulted in a prison sentence.
