The United States and Britain are set to unveil more than $10 billion in economic agreements this week during President Trump’s state visit, senior U.S. officials said Monday.
The planned deals will focus on three key areas: a new science and technology partnership aimed at boosting both countries’ tech sectors, cooperation in civil nuclear power, and enhanced collaboration on defense technology, officials said during a briefing. Several U.S. tech business leaders are expected to attend.
Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are scheduled to arrive late Tuesday for meetings with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, followed by a state dinner that evening. On Thursday, Trump will meet British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, with a joint news conference planned before returning to Washington that night.
Trump becomes the first U.S. president to receive two invitations to British state dinners, having previously attended one in 2019 during his first term.
Windsor Castle staff are setting the 50-meter mahogany table, grooms are polishing the horses’ hooves, and the military honor guard is drilling to ensure flawless precision. Across the nearly 1,000-year-old castle west of London, hundreds are preparing for King Charles III to host U.S. President Donald Trump on his historic second state visit this week.
The visit, featuring tiaras, brass bands, and a banquet served on 200-year-old silver, showcases Britain’s unmatched pageantry. But the spectacle also has a purpose: strengthening ties with one of the world’s most powerful leaders as his America First policies shake long-standing trade and security relationships.
“We’re buttering up to him,” said Robert Lacey, royal historian and consultant on Netflix’s The Crown.
