King Charles will host President Trump for a state visit to the United Kingdom, Buckingham Palace confirmed Monday, making Trump the first elected political leader in modern history to be hosted twice by a British monarch for a state visit.
“His Majesty the King will host the President and Mrs Trump at Windsor Castle,” the palace said, with additional details to be released later. The visit will occur from September 17 to 19.
Trump revealed last month that he agreed to the visit after receiving a handwritten letter from the King, delivered personally by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer during a meeting in the Oval Office.
Trump’s first state visit took place in June 2019, when the late Queen Elizabeth welcomed him to Buckingham Palace for a three-day stay that included a private lunch and tea with then-Prince Charles.
A separate meeting between Trump and Starmer is expected in Scotland later this month, according to a source familiar, though the date has not yet been finalized.
State visits traditionally include a carriage procession through central London and a formal banquet at Buckingham Palace.
