U.S. Judge Backs Trump Media in Dispute Over Brazilian Censorship

by | Feb 25, 2025

A U.S. judge ruled Tuesday in favor of President Trump’s media company in a case challenging censorship orders from a top Brazilian judge targeting right-wing voices on social media in the United States.

U.S. District Judge Mary Scriven determined that Rumble, the video-sharing platform, does not have to remove U.S.-based accounts of a prominent supporter of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. The case, brought by Trump Media & Technology Group and Rumble, accuses Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes of attempting to “censor legitimate political discourse in the United States” by ordering the removal of certain accounts.

Scriven found that Moraes’ orders were not properly served under international treaties and that no enforcement attempts had been made. As a result, she ruled that Trump Media and Rumble “are not obligated to comply.”
