Lawyers for Paramount and President Trump have agreed to bring in a mediator to explore a possible settlement in Trump’s ongoing $20 billion lawsuit against CBS, suggesting both sides are considering resolving the dispute outside of court.
Trump’s lawsuit accuses 60 Minutes of deceptively editing an interview with Kamala Harris, shortening her response to a question about the Israel-Hamas conflict. CBS has denied any wrongdoing in its editing process.
Ed Paltzik, an attorney for Trump, told the Times, “President Trump will pursue this vital matter to its just and rightful conclusion.” The lawsuit, initially filed just before the 2024 election, was later amended to include Paramount as a defendant, broadening the legal battle.
Settlement talks between Trump and Paramount began earlier this year, but reports of the negotiations have sparked internal tensions within Paramount, particularly among CBS News employees opposed to any settlement. 60 Minutes executive producer Bill Owens has reportedly told staff he has no intention of apologizing as part of any agreement.
