The Trump administration is set to remove hundreds of senior Department of Homeland Security employees this week as part of a broader effort to align the agency with its priorities, according to three sources familiar with the plan.
A “centralized plan” has been developed, targeting high-ranking officials across all DHS components, sources said. These firings follow widespread cuts that began Friday night, affecting FEMA, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, as part of a governmentwide effort to reduce the federal workforce.
Unlike previous reductions, this round will focus on career employees in Senior Executive Service and GS-15 positions—individuals who influence policy and strategy.
A DHS spokesperson defended the move, stating, “Under President Trump’s leadership, we are making sweeping cuts and reform across the federal government to eliminate egregious waste and incompetence that has been happening for decades at the expense of the American taxpayer.”
