Former CIA Director John Brennan has been subpoenaed to testify October 15 before a federal grand jury in Fort Pierce, Florida. His lawyer, Ken Wainstein, said in a court filing Monday that prosecutors gave him the subpoena last Thursday.
The subpoena is part of a Justice Department investigation into whether former law enforcement and intelligence officials conspired to deprive President Trump of his civil rights. The probe includes officials who investigated Trump over the past decade, including the 2016 Russia election interference inquiry and the classified documents case at Mar-a-Lago. The Brennan subpoena is one of several issued in recent weeks.
Wainstein disclosed the subpoena hours before a Washington court hearing in a lawsuit by Brennan seeking an order to preserve all records from the investigations targeting him. Prosecutors also told Wainstein that Brennan remains a target of a separate Washington investigation into whether he lied to Congress in 2023. Subpoenas in that case were issued in the spring and later withdrawn in favor of voluntary interviews.
The Florida subpoena was delivered the same day Joe diGenova, the prosecutor leading the investigation, resigned. A person familiar with the matter said the Justice Department and White House were displeased with the pace and management of the probe. The Justice Department has not announced a replacement.
