President Trump announced he is nominating Kevin Warsh to serve as chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, citing Warsh’s extensive background in economics, finance, and public service.
Trump highlighted Warsh’s prior service on the Federal Reserve Board from 2006 to 2011, when he became the youngest Fed governor in history at age 35. During that period, Warsh represented the Federal Reserve at the G-20, served as the Board’s emissary to Asian economies, and acted as administrative governor overseeing internal operations.
Warsh previously worked in the White House as special assistant to the president for economic policy and executive secretary of the National Economic Council, and earlier held senior roles in mergers and acquisitions at Morgan Stanley. He currently serves as the Shepard Family Distinguished Visiting Fellow in Economics at the Hoover Institution and lectures at Stanford Graduate School of Business. He holds an A.B. from Stanford University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
Trump praised Warsh’s record and leadership, calling him “central casting” and expressing confidence that he would rank among the most effective Federal Reserve chairmen.
