Attorneys for President Trump submitted notices of appeal on Monday in his $454 million NY civil fraud judgment, requesting that the state's mid-level appeals court overturn Attorney General Letitia James’ February 16 decision and reverse the excessive penalties.
In court documents, Trump's attorneys requested that the appeals court rule on whether Engoron “committed errors of law and/or fact” and whether he “acted in excess “of his authority or abused his discretion.
Trump's appeal paperwork left out any mention of whether he intended to use assets, cash, or an appeal bond to cover the amount owed in order to avoid an automatic stay from being collected during his appeal.
Trump was unable to immediately appeal the ruling because a judgment had to be submitted by the clerk's office at the courthouse. Trump now has a 30-day window of time to pay the fine or file an appeal and ask for a stay, after that was completed Friday.
