Maurene Comey, a former federal prosecutor and daughter of former FBI Director James Comey, sued President Trump’s administration Monday over her sudden July dismissal. She is seeking reinstatement to her former role at the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s office, where she served for ten years.
The eldest daughter of former FBI Director James Comey alleged in a Manhattan federal court filing against the Justice Department and the Executive Office of the President that she was given no reason for her termination. Her lawyers claimed she was fired “solely or substantially because her father is former FBI Director James B. Comey.”
On July 16, two weeks after the conclusion of Combs’ two-month trial, Comey said she was informed of her termination via email from the Justice Department’s human resources director. The message cited Article II of the Constitution but did not provide a specific reason. When Comey asked Clayton about the firing, he reportedly told her, “All I can say is it came from Washington,” according to the lawsuit.
