Special counsel Jack Smith filed a superseding indictment on Tuesday in the election interference case against President Trump, narrowing some of the allegations in response to the Supreme Court’s recent immunity ruling.
While none of the original four charges against Trump have been dropped, the updated indictment removes certain claims, including those tied to attempts to use the Justice Department to advance Trump’s election fraud claims. Prosecutors also refined how they present the remaining accusations about Trump’s alleged election subversion efforts.
“The superseding indictment, which was presented to a new grand jury that had not previously heard evidence in this case, reflects the Government’s efforts to respect and implement the Supreme Court’s holdings and remand instructions in Trump v. United States,” Smith's office said.
