The Office of the United States Trade Representative announced Tuesday the launch of a public comment process tied to the development of a new government-to-government framework with China aimed at managing bilateral trade on an ongoing basis.
The proposed structure, described as a U.S.-China Board of Trade, is intended to facilitate ongoing coordination between the two countries while reviewing potential adjustments to tariffs on certain non-sensitive goods. Officials said the process will also gather input on product categories that could see tariff modifications in order to promote greater balance and reciprocity in the trade relationship.
U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer said the Trump administration will work with stakeholders to identify areas of non-sensitive trade that could benefit American farmers, ranchers, fishermen, small businesses, manufacturers, and workers, while continuing to use tariffs as a tool to protect U.S. economic interests.
The public comment process will allow industry participants and other stakeholders to submit feedback on how to structure the proposed mechanism and which goods may be considered for potential changes.
