House Oversight Chairman James Comer is demanding testimony from former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and three other senior Biden officials as part of an investigation into the cover-up of Joe Biden’s mental decline and questions over who was making key executive decisions.
On Friday, Comer sent formal interview requests to Jean-Pierre, former White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients, former deputy press secretary Andrew Bates, and former special assistant Ian Sams. The letters ask the officials to appear for transcribed interviews in late August and early September.
Comer said the committee believes the four have critical information about who made key decisions and exercised the powers of the executive branch during the previous administration, possibly without Biden’s consent. The investigation is also examining whether senior staff carried out unauthorized actions, including issuing sweeping pardons.
The officials have until July 4 to confirm whether they will appear voluntarily or face a possible subpoena. This latest round of demands follows earlier subpoenas to Biden’s physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor and former senior advisor Anthony Bernal after they declined to appear voluntarily.
