House Oversight Subpoenas JPMorgan for Epstein-Related Financial Records

by | Nov 19, 2025

The House Oversight Committee has issued a subpoena directing JPMorgan Chase to hand over financial records tied to Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, citing concerns about the federal government’s handling of the original investigation, the circumstances surrounding Epstein’s death, and the broader operation of sex-trafficking networks.

Chairman James Comer, in a letter sent November 18, 2025 to JPMorgan’s General Counsel Stacey Friedman, said the committee is examining possible mismanagement by federal agencies, ethics violations involving public officials, and the role financial institutions may have played in enabling Epstein’s activities. Comer noted that the House has wide investigative authority under its rules, allowing him to issue the subpoena unilaterally.

Comer wrote that investigators have already obtained some banking information and now require further details, noting Epstein reportedly maintained accounts with JPMorgan for roughly two decades until the bank closed them in 2013. He also pointed to JPMorgan’s 2019 internal review, known as Project Jeep, which examined Epstein-linked accounts and identified thousands of transactions later flagged as suspicious.

According to the letter, these records are essential to understanding whether financial institutions overlooked warning signs or contributed to Epstein’s ability to operate. Comer said the findings will guide potential legislative reforms aimed at strengthening federal efforts to combat sex trafficking and improving the compliance practices of financial institutions.

He asked JPMorgan to comply promptly and directed the bank’s representatives to coordinate with committee staff for further guidance.
