President Trump said the United States is engaged in serious discussions with a “new, and more reasonable” regime in Iran aimed at ending ongoing U.S. military operations.
In a Truth Social post on Monday, Trump said progress has been made toward a potential agreement and indicated a deal is likely, while warning that failure to reach terms could trigger further military action.
Trump stated that if a deal is not reached and the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened to shipping, the U.S. would target key Iranian infrastructure, including electric generating facilities, oil wells, and Kharg Island, noting that those assets have been “purposefully not yet touched.”
He framed the potential response as retaliation for past attacks on American personnel, referencing Iran’s “47 year ‘Reign of Terror.’”
