Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has removed Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Kruse as head of the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency. The agency’s deputy director, Christine Bordine, is expected to step in as acting DIA director, according to AP News, citing a White House official.
The move follows the agency’s controversial preliminary assessment of U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. The report, which later leaked to the media, concluded that Iran’s nuclear program was delayed by only a few months, in direct contradiction of statements from President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the strikes had completely and fully obliterated the program. President Trump formally rejected the assessment.
Kruse’s firing comes amid broader changes in the U.S. military and intelligence community. The Office of the Director of National Intelligence, which coordinates 18 intelligence agencies including the DIA, announced plans this week to reduce staff and cut its budget.
